WIP – Work in Progress
A new solo project is now beginning to be conceived. It will probably be a multidimensional and fragmentary project similar to ‘a body as listening – resonant cartography of music (im)materialities’, but also very different from it. In this direction, a first work – the installation ‘hamlet-resonance : Quintet for the end of time’ - has been created (June 2024) as a commission by Terceira Pessoa for the abandoned village/hamlet of Azinheira, near Castelo Branco (PT), and in the context of their project Estado Ativo.
The installation had a fragmentary format, proposing three different elements that somehow resonate along:
I. Sound miniatures diffused by 5 horn loudspeakers (and independent channels) scattered around a huge stone massif in one of the ends of the small village of Azinheira.
II. A selection of ‘Variations on Goldberg Variations’ (sound inscription) exhibited in light boxes at a little house, next to the Azinheira communal oven;
III. ‘Manifesto for the end of time’ (in PT).
The installation is an initial exercise for this multidimensional project, creating a space-time of reflection around the western neoliberal capitalist construct of ‘time’ and deconstructing the ‘times’ we’re living through this same concept of ‘time’
The title is also an evocation of the iconic work ‘Quartet for the end of time’ by Olivier
Messian, premiered in the concentration camp Stalag VIIIA in 1941.
