Projects with Pedro Diniz Reis

6489 A’s for prepared piano

composed by Joana Sá after Pedro Diniz Reis’ The Book of A’s
Culturgest Lisboa e Porto, 2011

The Book of A’s
Pedro Diniz Reis

Since 2004, Pedro Diniz Reis (Lisbon, 1972) has produced a remarkable group of works in which he makes use of certain linguistic signs – different alphabets, all the words of an English dictionary, the numbers from 0 to 9 spoken in Japanese – as abstract material, as pure signifiers, applying rules for the combination and sequencing of the different elements in order to construct sound and/or visual compositions that draw the spectator into a deeply immersive sensory experience. This group of works were previously shown in an exhibition at Culturgest in Porto, A dictionary, four alphabets and a decimal system, in November 2010. This exhibition had consequences that were as unexpected as they were crucial in his artistic activity, opening up a whole new field of creative possibilities, which were widely explored in two works presented in parallel: The Book of A’s and Joana Sá’s performance 6489 A’s for prepared piano (composed after The Book of A’s ). Composed of three pieces in different mediums (video, sound and book), this second exhibition of Pedro Diniz Reis at Culturgest expresses a moment of remarkable creative combustion in his work.

Modo Portátil – a partir de Constança Capdeville

Pequeno auditório do CCB – Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisboa,
February 13th and 14th, 2014.

Modo Portátil takes as its starting point the articulation between various artistic expressions, following Constança Capdeville's own spirit and methodology. The richness and complexity of the composer's repertoire is the subject of a creative and ever-renewed experimentation, in which proposals from the members of the collective are sought. Constança knew how to use this sublime strategy: she didn't alienate herself from her surroundings or let her surroundings alienate her. She created the world. This performance is also a tribute to her artistic thinking and her art. Musicians, actors and dancers in a theatre show disguised as a concert, disguised as a ballet, disguised as a lecture, disguised as a sculpture, disguised as a book, disguised as everything. At the end, a loving dedication: All for you, Constança.
Modo Portátil by Constança Capdeville is part of the CFAC - MODO PORTÁTIL project, organised and coordinated by the Sons da Lusofonia Association with the support of the EDP Foundation.

Pi_ADD(a) forte

Performance for young audience by Simão Costa

Is my pianoforte forte or piano?
It used to be an acoustic grand piano. But then it became electric, as well as electroacoustic, with digital influences, it sure did.
Around this piano:
2 pianists, several high and low technologies and a dancer that makes you want to pay attention. The pianists add sounds, video animations and gestures, mixing and remixing real time into surreal time.
Live musical dance for each sense to enjoy, adding connections between listeners who share the same acoustic space.
